Artist Statement:

• "This design depicts a series of human faces that represent the Salish communities that once stretched across the Northwest Coast – from Washington State to British Columbia to the Gulf and San Juan Islands. In these communities, Salish people developed a wide range of spiritual practices, artistic mediums, forms of governance, and much more, and many of these cultural practices were connected to the land they lived on. But today, many Salish people have been relocated, have moved away, or have lost their traditional land, and subsequently, have lost their connection with their traditional homes. But by honoring and carrying traditional practices, such as Salish art, we can maintain a spiritual connection to the Salish land, villages, and communities that came before us." --Dylan Thomas
